Push means that when the Server Receives the mail it is sent to your phone soon there after. No need for the phone to poll every 15, 30, 60 min. There are multiple ways that this is implemented.
However, Yahoo Push is not very solid. Kind of intermittant. Sometimes it works great and other times I have to manually go into the email client and manually have it check for mail. In some cases I have had to go into the Yahoo Web Interface and delete the oldest mail (this is when the phone just says "Checking for Mail"). Sometimes I have had to Power Reset my phone.
When it works I love it. I am just hoping Apple and Yahoo can get this working in a more reliable manner.
Me too... but I was under the impression that this has nothing to do with Apple, it's an AT&T-n-Yahoo thing. The mail gets pushed onto AT&T's server which then pushes it onto the phone.
Besides... I'd rather blame AT&T for intermittent mail than Apple.

Oh, did not know that. I just assumed that my iPhone was talking directly to Yahoo Servers (over some kind of TCPIP Connection, WiFi or EDGE). I hope my mail does not also get stored on AT&T servers. Just another place to have problems.
