Yahoo teams up with iTunes for Japanese iPod users

The Japanese website Yahoo Music said Thursday that it had tied up with Apple's iTunes music store to allow iPod users to download songs and other content.

"I'm very happy that, thanks to the cooperation with iTunes, users of Yahoo Japan will be able to access the iTunes store directly," Yahoo Japan president Masahiro Inoue said.

"We will provide broader content and functions through our services that have attracted many users," he said in a statement.

This is a first for Apple I beleive and might hint to some problems with tapping the online music market in Japan.

Hah, OK. I guess I don't really know anyone who browses Yahoo Music anymore either... meh, but what do I know?

Seems still popular with the regular folks on the street. Out here in the rest of the country known as Japan (not Tokyo) most people don't know Apple, iTunes, or Google. Yahoo is default and just well known. That being said, still more of my students get their stuff at a store (CDs) or illegaly.

Japan needs the iPhone NOW.
