I am seriously underwhelmed with the apple watch.

Lg urbane or even pebbles new smart watch look better and seem to have more functionality and cross platform abilities.

The lack of a GPS in the apple watch completely kills it for me. I also think it's ugly. I have no doubt though that it'll go on to sell and do well. The apple branding is so strong at this point that even if they release the apple watch with less functionality and higher price than the competition, people will still pay for it.

I'm not in the market for a smartwatch but I agree that the Apple Watch is very underwhelming. I guess we'll see tomorrow how it ends up doing.

I'm hoping that Google opens up Android watches to work with iOS. If so, I'd def consider the next generation Moto 360.

Now that the Apple Watch event is over, any additional thoughts from people here?

My thoughts: No, thanks.

Not surprised by prices for the watch itself but the band prices...:eek::eek:

I'm a bit ambivalent on the design..not sure if I like it or not, really need to see it in person, on my wrist.

I live pretty much in an Apple world presently so I'd get some benefit from the functionality. One thing I didn't see addressed is amount of onboard storage. I don't mind that it needs to be linked to one's iPhone for most functionality but I'd really like to be able to leave the phone behind and still listen to music while I hike/run/etc via BT headphones.

I also understand your point about lack of GPS but I understand why it's not included. GPS is a huge battery hog--my Microsoft Band has it, gets better battery life than the Apple Watch apparently will yet when I use it for a walk/hike, even after an hour I've usually burned through a huge chunk of battery life. And the Band has a much smaller display so I can imagine the impact GPS would have on the Apple Watch.

I presently don't have a lot of choice when in comes to smartwatches but I still think I'm going to hold off and see some first hand accounts of performance before considering getting one. Thankfully my Band is working pretty well to hit most of my needs and the prospects of Android Wear device compatibility are enough to have me wait a while. Also, want to see what third party band option are like because the prices Apple is charging for its bands is absolutely ridiculous.

underwhelmed but not surprised cuz we already knew most of its features. plus the styling is ugly in my eyes. if i wanted to pay 10k for a iwatch, i would get a real swiss watch.

I have to agree. The watch just isn't very good looking.

No surprises, except for the price. I think it's huge money for something that adds little in the way of additional functionality and which will be obsolete in 12 months time.

I just don't get it (or any smart watch). Not for me thanks.

I don't know how it would be an alternative when it's for mostly Android devices.

Just ran across this on Yahoo, and thought it might be interesting to some:

Here Are 16 Awesome Alternatives to the Apple Watch

It had a couple that I'd not heard of.
The first one on your list the Mondaine is very interesting. There are a bunch of Swiss companies that are all using the same technology and will have watches available later this year. The two interesting points are no display screen and a two year battery life as a result. I am waiting to see what sort of trackers they will support and the interface that they provide but find what they are doing interesting.

I am very much a watch person and have three expensive watches plus a cheap fitness tracker with a chest strap. I was very interested in the Apple watch when it was announced but have lost all interest because of battery life and poor fitness support.

Probably less than 1% of the watches will be gold, and you are never going to buy a $10,000 watch anyway, right? So what kind of watch would you get for $349?

I wouldn't say I am underwhelmed because I didn't expect to be blown off my feet anyway. No smart watches do that for me and I just don't have a use for them. I will stick to my very stylish, future-proof, mechanical watches thanks. :)

Interesting list of alternatives. I'd been ignoring the non-Apple options prior to Monday thinking Apple would surprise us with some useful new features. Things like improved battery life, full waterproofing, or compelling new use cases.

But Apple didn't announce anything new at all - except for silly pricing. Quite disappointing.

I think a lot of Apple's competitors were worried before Monday, but they can now rest easy. Thanks to Apple's limp Monday "announcement", the competitors are all solidly back in the game again - pricing and feature wise.

I really like the apple watch, but not at the price they're asking for. If I were to get one, I would want the 42mm black steel with metal band, that version is priced at $1,099 plus tax.

Guess I'll wait to see if they drop in price, or until I feel the product is worth that amount, which may take a while.
