Yahoo or Google for contact/calender sync?

Iphone GS w/3.1 OS

I am trying to setup my contacts and calender to sych up w/ google or yahoo. I am a yahoo and YIM lover. I would like to keep my email contacts seperate from my phone contacts. What would you recommend? Is gmail or yahoo mail/servers safer than one another? THANKS for your help !!
