Anyone know why yahoo.com shows up on Safari in card format?

You mean mobile format? It's supposed to. If you want the full site click on the share sheet (square icon with arrow pointing up) on the bottom and select "request full desktop site".

Much easier to tap and hold the page reload icon in the address bar. You should get a popup only for requesting the desktop site - but you probably don't want that with yahoo on a phone.

Sounds like that's on Yahoo! as to why they choose to use particular designs for particular browsers.

Yahoo keeps changing it back and forth. One day its the carousel, the next day its the cards. The carousel is the more efficient design.
