My old one was messed up and they sent me another one. It took about a week for processing, not bad. How can I tell if it's a refurbished or new iPod? There's aren't any marks on it. Is there a way to tell?

If you know the serial number from your old ipod. You could check the one on the one Apple returned to you to see if it is actually your old ipod the fixed not a refurbished one.

It's not the same one (different SN) and plus it's all shiny and new lookin'. I don't know if they polish them or not so... it's either refurb or new, I'm tryin' to figure out which. If there's a way.

Glad you got it back! I would miss mine if it was gone.

Does it really matter to you? Looks new, works...
I'd just enjoy it!

Out of curiosity, was it engraved? I just sent mine in, and I'm hoping to get it back next week. On the website, it says they've received my iPod and ordered a Replacement. Anyone have a guess as to how long it will take to get back to me.

I think I read under the warranty that if it was engraved, it will be engraved for free. It'll take like another couple days to get it back. I'm so glad I got mine back.

can I ask how long it took, specifically from the time your status said "Order created"?

Umm, depending on where you live it's gunna be different. The place is located in Cali (I think) and I got it in 2 days after I read "order created" I believe on my status thinger. Oh and I live in NY, so it's pretty quick. I was expecting it like Mon.

i had my 3G 40gb replaced a while back. i phoned up on the monday morning at 9.30am, 11am the dhl guy came and took the pod. 7pm it showed up recieved by apple, and 1pm the next day there was a replacement one, engraved, in my hands. 26hrs. i was seriously shocked they could be that efficient when it took them THREE WEEKS to get their fingers out and fix my PB's screen when the hinge went. i'd have much rather been without pod for three weeks than powerbook. never mind.

Sometimes I have seen them replace an older generation with a newer. It is rare, they often even replace 1G minis with 1G minis, but I have known of several 3G owners get a 4G in return. Not all have been happy with the exchange either, preferring the 3G design.

i got my replacement very quickly. they engraved it too, looks brand new now. the service they use for shipping (DHL) is really great too. i got the package to put the ipod in at around noon, and then i scheduled an appointment for 3 o clock on the same day for pick up. they came, took it, and it got a new one the next week.
