Yearly Updates on Apple Products?

My apologies if this was posted before.

I actually came across this article and thought it made some sense. What do you think? Is the reason for long awaited updates due to Apple moving towards a 1 update/year schedule?

Maybe something like this:

Q1: Desktops

Q2: (near WWDC) the iPhone has recently seen updates.

Q3: All about iPods.

Q4: MacBooks.

Consumer desktops and laptops will not be competitive on a once a year update schedule.

iPod/iPhone will run a different timeline to the Macs.
