I'm new to Jail breaking, though I've had my iPhone since July. It's a 3G and running on O2 here in the UK. I'm not looking to unlock my phone, just customize the theme and stuff. Can people just run down a few things for me?

What is a baseband?
What is Yellow Sn0w?

I keep seeing the above cropping up everywhere and causing problems for some but I don't have a clue what they are and how they could/would affect me?
I'm running 2.2.1. I'm kinda anxious as I don't wanna "brick" it, nor make it so I can't use Safari or anything like that ('cos I see people's "modems" are being hit). I guess I'm looking for a bit of reassurance and just some general info.

Thanks.

Baseband is the firmware on the modem.

yellowsn0w is a soft unlock application available via cydia developed by The Dev Team. It is used to unlock your iPhone to other networks.

If you are an O2 customer you do not need to worry about any of this as it does not affect you and you will never need it.
