I've been reading about the yellow tint for the 27" imacs but I was wondering if the 21.5" imacs are having this same problem. If not, I'm on my way to an Apple Store this week to purchase a 21.5" imac.

Yellow tint for 21.5" imacs?

My week 44 is flawless, with none of the issues so far. Sometimes I think there is some yellowing on the bottom part of the screen, but really can't tell for sure. Usually changing my viewing angle makes it disappear. Quite honestly, I think my mind is playing tricks on me with all the talk of yellow tinge. I would never have looked for it otherwise. And I won't be testing to see if it's actually there. With Apple Care, I expect Apple will make it right if I do run into issues down the road.
This is a beautiful, fast, whisper quite machine. Coming from a lifetime of plastic Dell's, the aluminum mac just feels solid and oozes quality.
I say go for it!

Ever since Apple introduced aluminium based iMacs there have been screen issues. Expect it in every iMac model.
I suggest you get it. Superb machine. I had a minor (I'm tempted to call it trivial) hint of yellow tinge along the very base of my screen and after mentioning it to Apple they immediately sent me a replacement which, after several days' use is still immaculate.
Best computer I have owned at this point. And Apple's service has been top class.
wow it was that easy for them to ship you a replacement? what did you do with the mac that had the yellow tint at the base?
If it was so trivial, why bother calling and going through getting a replacement anyway?
Just bought a refurbished 21.5 and the screen is perfect. Highly recommend getting one.

YMMV but I just returned my 3rd 21.5 and finally convinced apple manager to let me open the 4th before going home. And same problem on the 4th. Manager said it is a known prob. Duh. But anyway I opted for Mac Mini and bought a beautiful samsung LED monitor. Finally after 2 weeks of headaches I am very pleased. I know so many Imac owners with little to no issues so give it a whirl but check it close.
In case you were out of the loop on the iMac yellow tint, Apple started to offer tint compensating glasses to sort out the controversy (slightly yellowish in the upper and middle part of the lenses). The claim is, that they compensate on average 92% of the native yellow tint of the screen and effectively make the tinge disappear....

I just bought two refurbs (21.5 and 27) and they both have identical screens, at least to me.
The whites are not pure white (just as there is no such thing as pure black on backlit displays) but they are certainly GREAT LOOKING SCREENS.
I don't think I see a yellow tinge. I wonder how obvious this would be. I examined my screens pretty closely. Both have 1 stuck pixel each (at least so far, its only Day 2 for me) in roughly the same spot on the right hand corner, but they don't bother me much so I won't be going through the hassles of a return.
I did notice that I can keep the 21.5" on full brightness or 1 or 2 "dots" away from full brightness and be comfortable. The 27" I turned down to about 70% brightness, as my eyes were starting to hurt with it on full.
The screens looks fantastic, IMO. Pictures, videos, websites, everything looks just amazing. The viewing angles are fantastic too.
I did notice that there is some uneven backlighting (or maybe that's called "backlight bleed"?) when the screen is all black, but all my monitors and my previous iMac had that too, so I think its normal and it definitely does not effect day to day usage. When I have actual stuff on the screen it looks GORGEOUS.
I would say DONT worry!!! When you first get your mac, spend maybe 5-10 mins examining the screen for ANNOYING stuck pixels (like if it was red and in the middle). and make sure the screen colors look more or less even. If they do, then you're good to go!
Just be prepared for the high likelihood that there probably will be one or two stuck pixels SOMEWHERE on the screen (to me, that's not a deal breaker if its not in a spot that frequently displays a solid color background, such as the middle where I do my web browsing, and if the color is a blue or similar color versus bright red). Chances are your current screen has them too but you may never have noticed.
Its just that when we freak out and put something under a microscope we find all the imperfections that we would never notice in real day to day usage. That is why complaint levels are so much higher from forum-goers and power users versus the general population.
It is important to remember: There is no such thing as a perfect computer, and yes, that even includes computers at this price!
So relax, AND ENJOY YOUR MAC EXPERIENCE!

Congrats on your computers. Those iMacs ARE nice, aren't they? And not all of the screens have the yellow tinge.
If you want to know the look of the typical yellow tinged screen and use Photoshop, you could use the Gradient tool and fill the bottom part of a white page with 5% yellow wedge to see something similar. For some people it is almost unnoticeable, for others it is a deal breaker.
Roughly half of the iMacs I have seen in the stores in the last 8 months have it to some degree (and a few had more, than 5% yellow), but then mine is not a scientific observation.
IMO Apple decided to keep replacing faulty screens for those, who complain, rather than remove all of them from the sales. It probably makes business sense, but also frustrates some of the buyers.

Sounds like not ALL have the yellow...but most do...my 27" does...bothered me at first...now I could care less.
