Hi All,

My trusty early 2006 1.83GHZ 17" Intel core duo iMAC has (for the first time ever) a fault. It has developed a vertical line all the way down the screen - always in the same position:

My desktop is plain black.. and the line shows up as having a yellow colour. It covers the whole of the screen.

I tried switching the machine off and on again! but no change.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

I think your screen is broken; you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store see if you can get it repaired.

Sadly, this is a common problem with this model and well-documented
by lots of people on the web.

There is a site dedicated to the problem here:
http://imaclines.blogspot.com/

Does your iMac's serial start with W860... and end with U2N?
Apparently this batch was affected (W8 = Made in Shanghai, China).

If you plead your case hard enough, and get in contact with an Apple
Supervisor, Apple will fix it even if it is out of warranty. They have done
this for some people, and even after the fix, the problem has come back
for some...
