Hello all,

I just picked up a brand new MacBook Pro 2.2 15.4" Glossy 5 days ago.

I've only had 2 charge cycles on the battery. Today, I inspected the battery after a couple hours use and noticed that it seemed to bulge, however, VERY slightly right next to the meter. I thought, oh great another MBP battery issue. I let the machine cool down, thinking it was just the metal expanding because it was so subtle.

Hours later, I let it charge (with the battery starting out at 87%) and for two hours, it never achieved a full charge. Maybe it was almost there, maybe I'm paranoid. Does this sound like early symptoms for the typical battery issue?

Thanks for the help!

UPDATE: While using it plugged into AC, it reached 100% and the MagSafe light turned green. That's a good sign. Tomorrow I will calibrate it.

Do you have any battery monitoring software installed? (iStat or look in 'About this Mac'/More Info/Power)

Please report back with the battery stats. If it is shorting out it will show in the numbers as a shorted cell will cause the Amp Hours to drop substantially as well as a couple of the other numbers will be out of whack (technical term there :))

iStat Pro reports 98% health and 100% charged with 2 cycles. No fluctuations in the Amp Hours or other stats.

So I assume that you are seeing a mAh number up over 5000? If so I think everything is fine. It's possible that the 'slight' bulge was there before but had gone unnoticed. Does the bulge touch the table top or interfere in the computer sitting level?

Yes, over 5000. You're probably right, and all of these battery problems have got me seeing things. The bulge does not touch the table surface. It's most likely nothing, but I'll keep my eye on it.

Thanks
