i know there are different avi files and quicktime can handle some of them and others not..
when i click a file to play and it says "some quicktime codecs are missing blah blah blah" and it directs you to a page with codecs and guess what?,you have no idea what one is required for that file,so you run outside and kick the nearest cat.
is there a programme where you can convert them to all play on quicktime
i forgot to mention that i watch these files but there is no sound..
any help appreciated..
thanks again

Sorry, I am not a mac user, will be soon, but I had this same problem on my friends mac. You are (I think) trying to play .avi's with codecs like xvid and divx and all that stuff. Thats why you only get sound and quicktime wont play them. Download a program called VLC, the mac icon is a traffic cone, it plays them all great.

Go download the Divx codec, flip4mac, and xvid. If that doesn't work. Just google and download VLC (Video Lan Client).

VLC will play most things, infact I'd go close to say will play all things.

Save thta buy a DVD player that can handel DivX codec and watch them on your TV

I've got a pioneer DV-676A, plays DVD-A, SACD, DivX, Xvid, VCD, SVCD, DVD, CD, MP3, JPG and WMA.

only trouble is the motor is a litle noisy.

Vlc

I definately recommend the VLC player, running on a G4 iBook with Tiger it works a dream!!!! Have never had any issues with VLC.
