Officially switched to Android today. I've owned iPhones since 2007, but i was pretty much tired with the OS. I've had the first iphone, 3G, 3GS, 4. Today, after waiting for the Galaxy note 2 announcement, i bought a White Galaxy Tab.

Music syncing gets better over time since you only ever do it once and don't lose everything. What app are you using?

How does it put your Mac to sleep?

There are a couple different keyboards you can try that allow you to edit the settings to suit your style. If you've never tried Swype (or SlideIT which I prefer) you should, but if that doesn't appeal to you at all give Swiftkey 3 a try. It has alt keys (long press) for numbers and the most often used symbols.

iSyncr is a joy to use when it comes to syncing music and it keeps all your play counts etc. up to date.

Oddly enough one of the things I LIKED about my Android phone regarding keyboard is:

The fact that when you hit a number and the space bar it Doesn't bring you back to letters! (I use thumb keyboard app so long presses will give you quick fix numbers). I also LIKE that when you hit caps lock and go into the numbers/special chars menu, it KEEPS your caplock selected until you turn it off! Something stupid I like is when you use the quick word fill feature and there is a space after the word, it puts the punctuation right after the word you chose even though by default there is a space in between the word you chose and when you are supposed to start typing.

Apologies if I am not expressing myself very well today. It's early

that's weird. Tried it on my acer laptop and nothing happened. Must be some sleep circuitry in the mac at that point that the S3 interacts/interferes with.

That's a magnet(from the speaker or ear-piece) putting your laptop to sleep.

What's happening is that when you lay the phone on that area, it macbook thinks that the lid is closed and puts itself to sleep.

If you put a paperclip on the lid, you will notice that it sticks in certain areas.

I wouldn't necessarily call Android the dark side.

Back in the days when we had the far superior Mac and easy to use operating system to the Windows world of their antiquated 3.1 and Windows 95, there was a good case to make that we were enlightened and they were back in the stone age. However, now Apple and most of their competitors offer great computers, smartphones, tablets, and operating systems throughout and at this point it becomes personal preference.

It becomes ridiculous to call any competitor the "dark side" since the great distinctions that once existed between Apple Inc and their competitors is pretty miniscule at best these days.

With prices so low and such a great selection, most people have both Apple products and the other stuff (HP, Android, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, LG, etc). I have three Mac minis, an old iBook, a Gateway laptop with Windows 7, and my trusty Motorola Razr and am open to any company for my next high tech product.

I suppose it depends on whether one considers Google the 'dark side' for collecting information about Android users and selling it on. Apple is also guilty of this, but not to the same extent as Google. So maybe the 'darker side' would be better.

I dont get it, I thought putting music on Android phones are just a drag and drop process... If its also syncing then i dont see why people nag that iOS is much more complicated under those matters...

It is drag and drop and technically easier too but when you already have a bunch of playlists drag and drop wont help you much.

^^^ what he said. I have like 10 playlists each have a minumum of 100 songs. those would be a nightmare to redo.

Well, the G3 seems definitely solid, and would be in a market for a new phone. Truth be told, I owned the iPhone, the blackberry (up to today) and i'm looking back to days of having a "phone" rather than a "smart" phone, which ends up being wasted on useless apps after just a couple of months.

What is it that Android makes it so much better than iOS (honest question folks)??

I am not so sure that it is better, it's just that it's different to be honest. I know lots of people will come on here and tell you what they think makes the OS better, but if what they think makes it better is not of interest to you, it won't matter what they are saying.

I guess for myself, I would not say it is better, I was just in the market for something different from iOS and some different hardware with more screen real estate. Samsung had a good rep for Android devices and hardware so I chose them.

What I like better myself so far, is simple things like when you put caplocks on it stays on until you turn it off, even if you have to switch to a special character keyboard. I like the thumb keyboard app, I have short thumbs and don't like typing having to stretch across the board in portrait mode. So having keyboard options for different users is great!

I like how easy it is to get ringtones and wall papers for free. Also how easy it is to download and install them.

I haven't changed my launcher yet, but it's nice to know if I get bored with the way Touchwiz works, I can change it up and still get the same performance from my device.

I also love the notification pull down tab and back button. More usefull than I ever thought they would be. I like how quick and easy it is to terminate all running processes by one click of a button, not double clicking the home button and closing every app individually.

I am sure there are many more things that others can say, but those are some of the things that I really enjoy about my Android experience compared to iOS.

I have had my S3 for about 7 weeks, TBH, I wouldn't say that Android is any better than iOS, I find it different and so far, more enjoyable, Im not that technically gifted so would not have dreamed of jailbreaking any of my iPhones, I also wouldn't root or flash my S3, I do find that it is nice to have a keyboard of choice, I tried swift key first but opted for swype, I also like that I can change the launcher and make the phone pleasing to my eye at least. I can honestly say that I have not regretted swapping phones, however.....Wonder what the new iPhone will bring to the party.

I highly recommend Thumb Keyboard. The symbols are already on the letter keys and you can simply longtap to get the symbol.

Good thread. I'm very tempted to try out an HTC One X or GS3. I have had iPhones since 2007 and iOS is just getting a bit boring. I jailbroke a few months back to freshen my 4 up leading into the new phone, and honestly it was fun for a week and not it's still the same experience. I then started looking at what I really do with my phone and it's mostly music with some email and web browsing (aside from texting and phone.) The iPhone does all those things just fine, yet I keep getting drawn to these 2 devices! Today I found iSyncr and Music PlayerPro and I'm again very tempted to try it out. I wish AT&T didn't have that $35 restocking fee for exchanging should I decide to get the new iPhone.

Any other hurdles people had when going from iOS to Android? I'm guessing pictures are just drag and drop onto the card somewhere? And those pictures can then be used as wallpaper? I've read that Android lack the tap on time to go to the top of a page. I can see that being missed.

I wish Apple would do a bigger refresh on iOS. I think widgets would go a long way towards that. I do love the way I can do more with the lock screen when jailbroken, accessing NC and replying to texts without unlocking. Glad we have some great options available out there now!
