Op, you sound like one of those annoying people who would post on social media "I'm fine everybody" in a public status about a disaster where many people have been killed and hundreds of others are desperate to know if loved ones are alive or not. Glad you like your phone but unfortunately there are many many who don't.

Glad you’re happy with it. Especially coming from a plus. I echo many of your sentiments but I came from a 7. I have had faceid stop working on me a couple of times and had to reset the phone...

Get ready for the “plus is better” folks to poop on your party.
You don’t need to reset Face ID. Just enter passcode when it doesn’t recognise you and train it.

This is when we need a thumbs down symbol.

I’d suggest you to seek professional assistance in your issue. :) My honest advice.

The reason I asked about the screen protector...like you, I have never used one before. But I do have 2 different kinds already here at the house and ready to put on...I have the Anker Karapak and the iCarez. Again...I have used zero screen protectors of the 7 different models I have owned over the years...but kinda leery this year.
I don’t use any screen protector too. I have been using Apple’s leather case since the 5s.

Were you born bitter, or have you just became that way recently. Of course, there has to be at least one horses a$$ in every group. You got the title.

When the display is off, and face ID is confirmed - I would like the 1st home screen ( or last app open) to automatically open without having to swipe up! That is as archaic as putting a thumb on the touch id circle...

Then how do you read the notifications? Now you just look at the phone and they’re gone.

Profmatt, thanks - good read. You got me curious enough that I sought out and bought one today. With the extended return period now in effect I should have plenty of time to figure out whether it's a keeper for me or not.

It certainly is an amazing rethink. My only real reservation right now, which is highly personal, is that I am really disliking having the control center in the upper right rather than on the bottom edge. That said, it's only been a few hours!

Question how is about charging speed? Heat from the phone? BIGGEE...are you using a screen protector?

Mine will be here on Wednesday...very excited to get it...NICE REVIEW. Thanks.

Charging speed depends. I usually charge with either the 29w or 87w chargers via usb3 to lightning.
Wireless charging is slow but decent and convenient.
Screen protector Apple installed. 4 Zagg shields and all were crooked. The apple machine is near perfect.

They just leave it as a toggle option in Settings, similar to how Touch ID worked after I think iOS 10?

So with Touch ID you have the option of having to press the Home button after authentication to get into the Home Screen, so you can see your notifications and interact with them (similar to how Face ID works now). This meant you theoretically had to push your Home button twice to get into your phone; once to wake it, then again to get into your Home Screen.

But, there was the option to just go into your Home Screen without pressing it a second time. That, in a sense, made it like "old" Touch ID where you just push the Home button once to wake it, and upon authentication, it automatically brought you to your Home Screen. This was the way I preferred to use Touch ID, as it was what I was used to back in the day.

That being said, I like how Face ID works now and the swipe up bothers me much less than pushing the Home button a second time. However, no harm in introducing a similar option to the above for Face ID for those that want it.

Yes, I agree that it should be an optional toggle in settings. Anyway the notifications can always be called out buy swiping down from the top.

I don't think the OP sounds like that at all. I think they're sharing their experiences like everybody else does and you're just not in agreement of something positive somebody has something to say about the iPhone X.

What do I miss from my 7+? I have a couple of banking apps that aren’t optimised for the X. This means two things. First, the app is basically regular 7 sized and plonked in the middle of the screen with two big bezels top and bottom. Which is a bit rubbish. Second, with no Touch ID (and they’re not optimised for the X, so no Face ID, either) I have to enter passwords to access them. Which is annoying.

Apple built in Face ID support into the Touch ID API. If you have an app that hasn’t been updated enable Touch ID and the phone will ask you if you would like to authenticate with Face ID.

Yes, you’re absolutely right and I should have updated my comments to reflect this. I’m very impressed by this feature.

The black Apple Silicone case arrived yesterday. It’s made me love the iPhone X even more. It’s a stunning case. It’s the darkest matte black you can imagine. It complements the phone so well. And it feels great (though it’s actually much less grippy than the naked phone).

But it’s rare to get a case that adds to the phone and makes it look even better. (IMHO, obviously.)

PS Because there’s no percentage battery indicator I’ve stopped worrying about battery life. So far it’s been fine. And I don’t care about charging speed because I always charge it overnight.

One of my favourite Apple purchases ever.

I really like the Apple leather cases, and I've had great luck with them since the 6. The thing is, and this is the same for both the leather and the silicone cases, they fit RIGHT and TIGHT. I've had my glossy Jet Black 7 in an Apple leather case since day 1 and there are no "micro scratches" under the case. Grit and "stuff" just doesn't get in between the case and the phone.

But the real reason I posted here was to say that you comment on the battery % indicator made me smile. It irks me that it's gone and that it take so many swipes to get to something that used to be in plain sight. Is it actually important, really? Of course not...but it bothers me still. :D Hint to iOS engineering team: consider an alternate battery display that has no graphic but gives a numerical readout instead. I bet it'd fit in the same space.

That time you come to read a thread to see progress thus far, only to LYAO at the latest posts. :)

All in all, the iPhone X, is a nice 'change' to the norm from Apple. I do feel that one has to try the device and ONLY use that one for a few days to get accustomed to the changes. Using the X and a Plus side by side, to me, would cause one to want to return the X.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

I sincerely cannot believe there is this much discussion about the battery percentage. Mind boggling.

I don’t think that’s true at all. I have no interest in an 8 plus. Depends person to person.

Agreed. Just received mine last night and I'm loving it. I know that the screen is larger than my 6S Plus. While I miss the big ass phone in my hands, this is quite an improvement

So I started leaving the percentage off on my phones since I want to say the 6S Plus but for some reason have left it on for my iPads. I do have to say that I had a lot less anxiety about not having enough battery to get through the day (which I never had an issue with) after doing so and it's something I'd suggest most people try as well.

None of us have reached your level of enlightenment. Where should we come to sacrifice small animals?

Small animals. Good one!

You’ll get your battery percentage in an update. No need to bring out the snark cannon.

OK - first, I'm sorry, you are right, that was an intentionally snarky response. Unnecessary and definitely not a good response around a holiday that's supposed to be for gratitude. :(

Second, your response here gets a "yeah!" from me - I suggested this somewhere else in the last day or so. It seems so easy: just tweak the display so there's a setting to toggle between a graphic display and a numerical display. OK, can't have both - no problem. But there's enough room in the corner there, it seems, to offer users a choice.

This discussion is making me wonder why I really want that numerical display, especially because I understand that these indicators are not all that accurate in the first place. Definitely some kind of security-blanket thing going on.

Glad you enjoy yours. It’s a great device. Love the design change with oled and better camera.

Certainly worth going from my 7 plus for sure
