Well I just picked up a 2.0 white yesterday and I think it's a bad one...

I noticed the whine right away as well as the moo however i was able to remedy this by deleting that extension file.

The machine idles at 65-72 degrees Celsius is that too hot? The bottom does feel really hot.

Also the trackpad button seems off centre. It won't click on the far right side and i have to press hard to get it to register until I get to the middle. Is this normal?

The superdrive is very loud too. And makes a lot of weird noises but this could be normal, I have never used a slot loading drive before.

Now I bought this laptop from a local authorized reseller and it took them 9 days to get it in... I would really prefer to not have to wait again but if the heat is going to cause problems I would rather have a new one.

So I guess I'm just wondering if all of this is normal. It's a fantastic machine otherwise.

If you can't get the button to register a click on the sides then it is not normal. However, in my experience with multiple MacBooks, there will likely be some sort of problem with the trackpad button.

65-72 when it's sitting there doing nothing or when you are working on it? If it's when you are working on it, that's probably not bad. Whether it feels "hot" is subjective.

Personally, I bought and returned a few before just giving up on them.

Is there a plastic strip over those air outlet holes, in the middle directly under the screen?

All of the MacBooks I had were about 59-62 C when doing nothing for a while.

having the power attached seems to increase the temp a bit. I have experience on both my MacBook and my parent's MacBook Pro.

after a few mins of loading the CPU up with "yes > /dev/null" the temp is at 62 degrees C, It usually idles around 40

I have no mooing, no whining, no cracks or gaps in the plastic, no cover over the air vents, just a perfect MacBook.

Hmmm I just finished reinstalling so I could return it and now the temp is at 30 degrees! Maybe it's fine after all.

I ran "yes > /dev/null/" and it shot up to 60 in about 20 seconds but now it's dropping back down and settling at 45.
