So I recently downloaded the yosemite beta via the developer member centre.

Anyway my fan has been running non-stop. After checking the activity monitor it shows that "syslogd" is taking up 146% CPU!
My battery is also taking ages to charge. Between 3-4 hours from 30%. compared to charging in under 2 hours with Mavericks.
I have a 2011 macbook pro.

Anyone else having similar issues or know how to fix these ones?

Much appreciated

Permanent fixes are a bit tricky, but with Activity Monitor you can grab a profile to send to Apple at http://bugreport.apple.com, once you have that you can then use Activity Monitor to quit or, if necessary, force quit the offending process. If it's important, it will simply relaunch again later.

During beta it's possible that syslogd is capturing messages from another process that is the real culprit, and becoming bogged down, so before you kill it you might want to watch Activity Monitor for a little bit to see if anything else might be at fault. Might not be either, but it's worth checking all the same.

Thanks Haravikk

I tried quitting syslogd 2 times before posting and it kept popping back up.

Syslogd was definitely getting bogged down by down by other processes. I quit spindump as well as something else which I can't remember (it was also taking up 60%)

as soon as i quit that other process syslogd went down to >1% :)
fan is also off

thanks for the advice
