Is it just me or can nobody else get Bluetooth Audio devices to connect with Yosemite? I can get it to say 'connected' but it doesn't show up as an option in 'output' (before it used to say Logitech A5) and nothing happens :/

There is no Yosemite beta 2... These are developer previews. Calling them betas implies they are ready for end user usage/testing... They are not.

^ It feels as if we have to repeat this on every thread... Yosemite is for DEVELOPERS (although, since XboxMySocks's status is macrumors 68000, I'd wager he already knows this).

Anyway, Bluetooth audio is working fine for me on my rMBP 2012. What are your system specs?

I'm well aware that it's a beta, and I *am* a developer.

Anyways.

It's a base Macbook Pro MFR July 2013.

2,5 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Worked fine for me on DP1, I can try again later for DP2. Using a Mini Jambox over BT.

You missed my point. Its "NOT" a beta...

Apple has said there will be a public beta, and this is explicitly called "developer preview". Are you developing something that involves bluetooth audio? Frankly I'm surprised anyone would use these for anything other then testing the new API's provided by it. Apple's actual initial releases tend to be the quality of most other companies betas, which is why most people recommend waiting until .1 or even .2 before upgrading. Hopefully their public beta will finally improve that.

It's funny because you're still wrong.

By any sane person's yardstick, a 'beta' of something is a piece of software worked on pre-release to be released at a later date. Wikipedia describes it as '... the software development phase following alpha. It generally begins when the software is feature complete. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it.'

Pay attention to that last line there. By definition, this is a beta. Even though Apple might not be calling it that. If you stopped being so bloody pedantic you might see that.

Also,

Are you developing something that involves bluetooth audio? Frankly I'm surprised anyone would use these for anything other then testing the new API's provided by it.

I don't think it's any of your bloody business what I'm doing with the new preview, and its not any of your business what others are either so your 'surprise' is wasted and turgid.

You, he ISN'T wrong. You are. You don't have a beta of Yosemite, because such a thing hasn't been released yet. The first beta will become available in a few days or weeks. A Preview Developer isn't a public beta. So, again, no. You are wrong.

By the definition you posted this is clearly not beta. It is not feature complete... this is for developers to start playing with some of the new features and test their applications against them.

You are right about one thing, its none of my business what you are developing, but I wasn't actually asking... it was a rhetorical question on why you even created this thread.

The DP is a beta test. Its a closed beta conducted by registered developers.

It is highly likely that one of the upcoming DP releases will be made available to those that signed up for the public beta. But again, this is a closed beta limited to 1million registered users + developers.

Once the DP cycle has been completed (beta over), they release the Golden Master (GM) version, which is then shipped in new hardware and made available to all.

At the end of the day it is semantics. But what we are testing now is the software cycle after the internal testing within apple.

Just curious -- if this isn't a beta, then what was it in all the previous years when they didn't release a "beta" to the public?

One HUGE reason you're wrong on this. Your own definition states that the beta phase begins once the software is "feature complete" - there are still several features listed at the Keynote that aren't even present at all or are only partially present in DP2. Since it is not feature complete at this time, it does not meet your own definition of "beta". The DP program is also not about feature testing as much as app developers getting their apps ready for the new OS.

They didn't really...they did release betas for their updates to developers, and they don't call them developer previews. They had some Appleseed users, that's about it. Which is why most people would tell you not to upgrade until .1 or .2. They have announced they are going to do a public beta now for 10.10, so I'm hoping it improves the quality of the actual release.

It IS.

Just to put my 5c worth..
My bluetooth audio seems to work perfectly on Yosemite DP2.

From what I've been seeing all over developer forums is that a clean install will give you best idea what is broken/has bugs with the pre-release - rather than bugs caused by other programs/driver from an upgrade install.

Agreed, but it still makes very good sense to evaluate an upgrade to a previous OS X version as well. The more bug reports (and fixes) the merrier, the final release will serve more machines better! Just my 2c.

You get your jolly's by sassing non-vernacular's? I hope you get DP'ed by a beta mail 2 tonight.

There were no "jolly's" to be gotten... this isn't a problem of vernacular. People are clearly confused about the difference between beta and developer preview. They are not the same thing, its not a question of language.

I may have not bothered posting anything had he said "developer preview", but he called it a beta. I would be more concerned about reproducing a problem with beta software so it can get resolved, but a developer "preview", ... its just kind of looking at a person pointing at water and telling everyone its wet.

Doesn't have to be a PUBLIC beta to be a beta. Who cares what it's called anyway? The whole thread s about bluetooth audio and it doesn't matter if it's a beta, an alpha, 10.10 or 10.10.1, it's totally irrelevant.

I mean, really. It's like he has a kid that's choking on what he calls an apple, and you want to call it an orange. What you call it is completely irrelevant. At the end of the day, he's just trying to ask how to get that kid to stop choking, rather it's on an apple or an orange.
