I just upgraded to yosemite on my Macbook Retina late 2013.

So before upgrading i had watched several videos and there i saw that the boot process had a black background with a white apple logo...

but i am seeing a white background with a grey logo..

So why am i not getting that?

Search the forum for "black". Several threads.

And all seem to point, more or less, to what model/year the device is. I have a 2008 MBP and it's not black. Someone reported their late 2012 something or other is not black, while their late 2013 rMBP is black.

Bottom line: out of your control and don't stress about it.

AFAIK, there should be a firmware upgrade during install Yosemite, which is virtually transparent to the user, and this is why some Mac have the black boot screen. I don't know if this upgrade actually do anything to the rMBP, but as long as your Mac works fine. Better not to touch the firmware. Or you may try re-install Yosemite, downgrade / upgrade the whole system again.
