Yosemite broken stuff

All of those things are working for me.

You may want to try doing a restore as it seems like something was botched during your installation.

to be fair though, notifications never really worked properly on any version of OSX

How do I do a restore? Re-download it?

Use your Time Machine back up (hopefully you have one). Reboot your computer, hold the Option key and select Restore from Time Machine.

Nope, no time machine (the external HD died awhile back, and I hadn't gotten around to replacing it).

Messages is broken on my MacBookPro 2014. It only works if I disable iCloud's contacts otherwise it crashes when I try to open it.

Any way to fix this?

If you don't have a back up, just run the Yosemite recovery partition, also by holding Option when rebooting. You'll have to choose a clean install. I'd offload any personal files you want saved to something else before you do that.

Then, seek a replacement HDD to use for Time Machine. That would be a wise investment if you can afford it.

From a clean install:

1- iCloud contacts are not working. Contact app crashes when iCloud contacts are enabled. There is nothing wrong in my contacts. I deleted all my contacts (of course after an export for local use) and still it doesn't work.

2- Safari bookmarks aren't shown.

These 2 have always been only problems since first beta release. Nothing changed with GM. Is there any option to do a "clean set up" for iCloud?

So far for my first day of using Yosemite I have two issues. I've searched google, forums, etc but have not found a fix.

1. Safari Networking usage is so high that I will have to go back to Chrome as a browser due to my satellite internet monthly data limit. What does that networking do and how can I get rid of it. This is the first time I have seen it in my Activity Monitor.

2. Each time I shutdown and then restart my iMac ... my background photos change on my iMac and 2nd Apple monitor.

I'd love to use the new Safari but don't see anyway possible as long as 'safari' networking' has such a high usage count.

Problem: Safari was freezing up whenever I clicked the address bar or after a minute if I didn't do anything. Tried restarting, deleting pref files, it still froze every time.

Solution: Clear History and Website Data

Turns out that Mavericks' local history was conflicting with the iCloud synced history and Safari would freeze up when trying to load the Frequently Visited sites when you click the address bar.

Everything works fine now and Safari is fast!

The solution I came up with:

Clean install of Mavericks and upgrade to Yosemite.
Now everything works perfectly.
