I have a 27-inch iMac (Mid 2011) and when I try to install Yosemite I get a message saying that An error occurred while extracting files from the package Essentials.pkg.

I have downloaded Yosemite 4 times with all available methods including App Store and Internet Recovery but nothing changes.

Any help ?

I got the same problem when installing Mavericks. I've downloaded install file about 13 or 14 times and there was always checksum error.
Turning off the PowerNap function during downloading did solve the problem.

No. There is no sth like that in App Store app.

System preferences / energy saver /
Power Nap is at the bottom of the window. (twice, in the Power tab or Battery/UPS tab - depending on your computer conf)

My Mac doesn't support the Power Nap option.

Try download on another Mac and make bootable pendrive.
