Yosemite GM 9.9.14?

So I know new OS X versions have been typically released later in the year; however, with all the Continuity and Handoff features tying in with Yosemite, I would like to think they are going to release the Yosemite GM at the same time as the IOS 8 launch. That would make entirely a lot of sense. I don't know how you can rehash Continuity when the Mac OS version is not out as well. Any opinions?

Not possible. It won’t be released until at least October, so there’s no possible way Apple would release a GM version over a month early.

With such an extensive public beta, I hope they take their time and fix all the possible issues before a full release. In the past, they have had to make pretty extensive patches about a month after release in order to fix critical issues. I'd rather they fix those beforehand.

Nope. 10.10.1 will be released Tuesday November 4, or earlier.

I can't get LaTeX to work correctly. Fine form terminal, but there is some system call that yosemite messes with which causes GUI editors to crash when they call the typesetting functions. I've reported to the apple, but it's annoying the **** out of me as I have to type set from terminal everytime I make a change.

What's not ready at all? I've been very solid for a month with the exception of some 3rd party apps not working (which is to be expected.) The annoying wifi bug seems to have gone away on the latest DP.

Also, I thought of another thing. Mavericks on regular iCloud and IOS 8 iCloud Drive will be a nightmare for your common user. That's a disaster waiting to happen with everyone not reading and hitting ok on iCloud Drive and being out of sync.

In all fairness, iOS 8 says coming this Fall as well. And it will either be released the 17th or 19th. Both before the official start of Fall. Even though Fall doesn't officially start till Sept. 22, people consider September (right after Labor Day) as Fall.

I'm talking about iOS 8. iOS 8 will be released either 17/19 of this month and both are before the true beginning of Fall even though Apple.com says iOS 8 is coming this Fall.

So with that being said, there is a slim chance Yosemite will come out before Sept. 22. Slim to none, but still a chance.

The LaTeX problem was a major issue for me in PB2, but it seems to have been fixed as of DP7 so it's getting there. It's not been solid for a month for me at all but maybe because I was on PBs rather than DPs.

iCloud Drive is not enabled by default, and it specifically tells you the warnings of turning it on when you go into the settings. So it's not a problem at this point. It won't be a problem for people who don't own a Mac either.

You don't NEED Continuity or Handoff. It's not going to hurt you to wait a few more weeks to get it.

And yeah, just because the betas seem solid to you, doesn't mean they aren't for other people. We all use our machines differently.

If you think your common user will not screw that up, then you have more faith in humanity than me as I've been in IT for a while. I would bet money that there will be a bunch of people complaining that their IOS 7 device and/or Mavericks Mac will not sync via iCloud for pics, notes, etc. Heck no one can tell with 100% certainty what the difference is between iCloud and iCloud Drive. There's been numerous posts with lots of confusion even on a mac enthusiast site like this one. Imagine how confused the common user will be...

A responsible beta tester may choose to consider the software not only from his or own perspective; there can also be consideration from the perspective of users who naturally have different ways of paying attention to things.

Putting yourself in someone else's shoes goes a long way to maximising the likelihood that release-quality software will behave well for the broadest possible range of customers.
