When I open a large folder in the finder, the spinning beach ball appears and my computer becomes unresponsive. This seems to be a bug in 10.10. (I have a fast Mac with SSD)

Have you tried updating the computer to the latest version of Yosemite? How many files are in the folder? What are the files, are they photos, videos, etc.

Also what is the exact Mac computer that you have.

200 is not a lot, what could be a problem is if it is creating previews or thumb nails. Try hide the preview in 'view' menu

I had that problem with some video files that the mac didn't like. It would stall and fan starts up when I click on that folder. Took a while to realise the problem, by chance I moved the files out the download folder and everything was good.
