I've finally got round to installing Yosemite on my 2009 unibody Macbook pro, and to be honest I'm already regretting it...

For the last 45 minutes it has been stuck on the installation screen saying "About 2 minutes remaining" and the fans are spinning fast. What is the best thing to do? Force power off or else's emit until something inside melts? How likely is it to corrupt the installation if I force power off?

Thanks for your help.

Let it go, I updated my early 2013 13" rMBP to yosemite and it sat at 1 minute remaining for well over an hour, The whole process was about 2 hours from start to finish.

It will eventually finish just be patient

You kidding me? I am on a 2011 Macbook and it took 5minutes.

I mean fair enough your advice is sound I would wait it out a considerable amount of time before taking other actions but after an hour without any hint its not just crashed I would have tried a reboot. Not necessarily the best or right action but thats a long time for this update on your machine.
