An external hard drive I've been using for quite a while is being ejected automatically by my Macbook Pro.
I've used this hard drive for quite a while on this computer but over the last couple weeks it's been getting ejected for no discernible reason.
USB, Western Digital, 320 gb, a few years old.

I'd try what the alert window is advising you to do:

1. Back up whatever's on the drive.
2. Re-initialize it -- I'd suggest HFS+
3. Re-test it using Disk Utility's "Repair Disk" feature.

What kind of report do you get then?

Do you have another Mac computer you can try the hard drive out in? Does the same issue happen if you use a different USB port.

Looks like it was the cable. It was a longer cable I bought from Cablestogo
