Hi all,

So since I installed Yosemite back on release my frame rate got a lot worse. Everything used to flip and whizz around easily but now it staggers with even only 2 programs open. I turned on reduced transparency, which seems to make a negligible effect. Can anyone think of any other ways I could improve my frame rate to something closer to pre-Yosemite levels?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB

This is normal with yosemite. The system is way slower than mavericks.
If I were you I would get back to 10.9 and enjoy a fast computer instead a low fps slide-show.

Why is it that slow?

a) Apple did not optimize the system enough.
b) Transparency is taking high tolls from your graphic card.
c) They want you to buy a new mac before christmas.
d) "You shall not use Yosemite - Only look at it and enjoy it's ugliness." Jony Ive

In your opinion! Don't make blanket statements that aren't true. This is what causes the awful and repetitive threads. Yosemite is working perfectly for some people, really bad for some people and somewhere in-between for some people.

Many people who had performance issues with Yosemite report that they can be solved with a clean install. Also, why not contact Apple about it? I am sure they will help.

@tschunde: just because you post exactly the same thing in every thread, does not make it true ;)

Which is what is making Yosemite so rubbish. It should be working perfectly for most people, with a few having problems. What with Yosemite and iOS8, my iPhone 6 is the only device out of all my Apple products which is working well. My late 2013 iMac and Macbook and my 2012 iPad all run slower. I had rarely seen beach balls until installing Yosemite. Now I get them all the time. Even opening Aperture produces beach balls. Safari has bugs that it never had before. I have OS X server installed and caching and time machine is not working properly. I'd rather pay money for decent software than get crap for free. Come to think of it, OS X server cost me money, only a few months after buying the last version and it still doesn't work properly.

I know I'm not alone in having problems and I guess Apple will eventually sort these out but by then there'll be a new version of OS X and the cycle of poor performance will start all over again. Clearly, nobody at Apple tried Yosemite with X-Plane. I get <5fps, as do lots of X-Plane users. Occasionally it gusts up to 20 fps but this doesn't last long.

Having dumped Windows about 15 months ago and as a user of only Apple products, I am very disappointed with how things are panning out. With software as as poor as Yosemite and iOS8, Apple are very simply taking the pi$$ out of people who've paid a lot of money for their products.

Sorry....late night rant over :).

My system is very sluggish, especially Finder and Safari. Sometimes simple things you would expect to take a millisecond, beachball me for 60-90 seconds. I have to reboot every few hours or most apps run at an abysmal frame rate.

It's a CLEAN install.... :(

For people who work with their computer its a bad pain in the ass for the others to play civilization, surf and email its beautiful.
Its the worst optimized OS apple ever made hard freezes,LAG,need restart all the time, hardware resources hog, finder is slow, bluetooth problems, slow wifi, external ntfs disk mess, safari ad lover, and a lot other bugs.
Congratulations rotten Apple you make me remember the good old windows 2000 days. You lazy rotten apple programmers already miss my sold iMac 27 i7 2010 with Snow Leopard.
