Don't get me wrong, the new features are fantastic. The new look however, ew. I liked iOS 7, but that sort of look in OS X leaves me with both a memory of Windows Aero and bad taste in my mouth.

I'm sure I'll get used to it in time. But it feels like the soul I liked about OS X has been flattened out.

It looks absolutely nothing like glossy bubbly Windows Aero.

I actually kinda liked the window transparency in Aero and was saddened to find it gone in Windows 8.x, hopefully Apple has refined this to actually make it more useful and that it can also be turned off if so desired.

I've liked it aero, but I'm concerned about if this will interfere with productivity and can I adjust the level of transparency. I'm curious about it and it can be a good thing.

Initially reading the title to this thread, I thought that it was a place for people whining over the new software. hehe

Back to topic, I understand where you are coming from, but I also was hoping that Yosemite would not look childish but I think they made a very good balance. Everything looks amazing.

I'm pretty hyped on it tbh, i don't really know why, but it looks pretty fun, something different at least from the past 5 years or so.

Will be going on the Macbook Air the minute it can.

Agree with the icons, and still not made my mind up about the dock, but whats wrong with Safari? I thought it looked pretty cool, you can even make it look like the Mavericks Safari if you want...

Can I?

About 10.10 safari, I like having it spread over more than one row.

And for the dock, no black/white background is gorgeous I sugest you try that if you haven’t. Plus being able to have it on the left side is a must for me...

Dark mode seems to be quite nice: it seems to have great features, and the UI really does help those with ADHD (and probably normal people, too) focus on information.

I bet Apple did a lot of research into bright colors and their effect on mood when designing the UI.

Maybe they’ll have dynamic switching for the Ui?

I hate the folder icons in Yosemite! Ugle ass blue color.

Couldn't agree more. Still, the new features mean I'll give it a go if I can change the icons to the current ones from Mavericks somehow. Pretty sure that's possible with some tinkering (if I can find the icons)

I predicted this so i saved all the system icons in the CoreUI framework, and for applications i do have all of the Major Mac OS X/OS X Versions, on different drives. Sounds good? :D?

Why doesn't Mac OS X get Metal??

Because it doesn't use A7 Processors. Good enough? :D?

We shouldn't be forced to change icons of something as basic as folders. Everything looks pretty nice to me. Except those teal folders... C'mon apple, wtf? The color right now is perfectly fine. Can we please start a petition against this color?

Why doesn't Mac OS X get Metal??

It very well might, but it will take a while. Metal currently is part of iOS where Apple has to deal with a very limited set of graphics accelerator hardware; basically all iOS devices use PowerVR. The desktop space however has them deal with AMD, nVidia and Intel. Each of which is completely different. Usually, a 3D API like OpenGL takes care of that difference, allowing you to program your application with that API and not have to worry about the hardware.

Metal is that 3D API. So it does have to worry about the hardware.

As I already wrote in another thread, Metal is pretty much OpenGL with some overhead removed. I can't see anything in the specs that would hint that Metal API worries about the hardware. Its pretty generic actually.
