Yosemite notes

Hi,

Notes on Yosemite doesn't seem to sync with iOS 9 via iCloud.

Will users have to upgrade to El Cap to sync with their iPhones running iOS 9?

Or might Apple update a notes app upgrade for Yosemite?......as there may be a delay between iOS 9 public and El Cap public release.

What is the norm for this? As I have a new MacBook Pro and would prefer not to upgrade to El Cap just yet (new to OS X).

The first time you open the Notes app it asks you if you want to upgrade the notes, and it tells you if you do they notes won't sync on previous versions. If you upgrade there is no turning back. If you don't upgrade it will still sync with previous versions, but you won't be able to use the new features.

I have the public beta iOS 9 on my iPhone 6 (with the 'new' notes) although I have about 700 notes, there are few, if any notes stored in iCloud utilising the 'new' note functions.

Can I confirm that this now means that I will never be able to sync with Yosemite notes on my new MacBook Pro?

ie I will have to upgrade to El Cap for notes sync to work with iPhone 6 iOS 9?

In www.icloud.com 'notes' has 'beta' in the corner if that makes a difference.

Yes if you already upgraded them they will never sync with yosemite again.

That's quite sad to hear.

I'm guessing but there maybe a time gap between El Cap and iOS 9 public release. If there is that might cause a few issues with users (like myself).

Usually that gap is quite small.

I think I know what your trying to say and how you are putting it.

I hadn't bought my Mac Book Pro when I clicked upgrade on my iphone, so as you put it maybe there is someone else who hasn't bought their Mac Book Pro just yet who upgrades to ios9

Also maybe there are other people new to OSX, but you have made it quite obvious you are excluded from that.

Actually Apple is trying to get OS X and iOS released at the same time. Probably they will this year.

iOS release is September and OS X release is October. It's been that way for a while now.

ah, this caught me out too. when i moved to the el cap beta, i chose to 'use the new notes'...and then, discovered it no longer synced with my ios8 phone. so moved that to the ios9 beta, and...no regrets. we move forward, whether we like it or not...

I had the same "problem" (for me not because a read the warning) with Yosemite Beta and iOS 7 and there wasn't a public beta of iOS 8 if I remember correctly and there wasn't even an option to keep the old version on the Mac. I can't remember if it was Notes too, might have been Contacts and/or Calendar, Reminders instead or even every four of them.

Why don't you try El Cap on a second partition or external drive? You will also get the final version earlier with the last beta, that is called Golden Master, if you sign up know for the beta program.

Edit: I don't know if GM is only for developers. I got some GM candidates last year, but wasn't in the public program.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll stick with Yosemite for now, I'm enjoying using it so much. Everyday I find something new on the OSX which is new exciting and helpful.

I'm finding the David A. Cox Yosemite youtube video(s) of help.

I will upgrade (not fresh install) to El Cap the day it is released to the public.

I'm looking forward to iphone, ipad and Mac Book Pro all in sync, but all in good time.

I do think however now that the ios & osx software are overlapping so much (which is great) that the public release of both software should be on the same day.

I can see real problems for the millions of users otherwise with their devices being out of sync.

Perhaps it would effect apple servers too much, and its difficult to get both softwares stable etc at the same time.
