Hi,

I am planning to upgrade my OS to Yosemite on my MacBook Air (Mid 2009). From the apple website and other pages I figured out that my MacBook Air 2.1 can be upgraded to Yosemite.

What I am concerned about is, whether there will be any disturbing amount of degradation in performance as the machine has 1.86GHz core2Duo processor and 2gigs of memory only.

I mostly use my mac to write codes and build app for iOS. My concern lies in the reduced performance. Is Yosemite going to slow my machine to death?

Please those of you have installed Yosemite on a MacBook Air 2.1, or lower please share your experience or any issues that you might have faced. TIA.

What OS do you currently have running on there? The '09 MacBook Air was the slowest Mac even back in 2009 when it was released so it will not be speedy on Yosemite.

I have Mavericks (10.9.5) running. It's doing okay, not blazing fast though!

I had Yosemite running on my old white MacBook from 09 which is comparable to your Air and it's about the same as Mavericks. Not at all speedy though.

Before you go off and commit on installing Yosemite, I would suggest that you create a new partition on your internal hard drive and install Yosemite on it. This will allow you to keep your Mavericks install without being affected by Yosemite. Boot to the Yosemite partiton and try it out. If it is not to your liking you can simply boot back to your Mavericks install and delete the partition with Yosemite installed on it. This is what I did when I evaluated Yosemite.
