Yosemite on mid/late 2009 Macbook

I have a mid or late 2009 Macbook that I bought February 2010. I have upgraded the Hard drive and the RAM to 6GB's. Sometimes Mavericks is sluggish (especially at boot up) but when it gets running it runs well with the additional RAM. Will Yosemite require more disk space to install and will it be more sluggish on my Mac or will it run the same? Generally Mac OS updates slow down the machine, but I am not sure if Yosemite will follow Apple's traditions.

I'm running the public beta on my mid-2009, and it seems just fine. Mavericks runs well on it too. It can sometimes be a little sluggish when I'm doing a lot of tasks that are reading or writing to the HDD. It's just not worth it to me to put in an SSD when I have one in my newer rMBP. Quite honestly I thought my 09 was dead this time last year, but it seems to have recovered.

I am running Yosemite Public Beta on my mid-2009 White Macbook(I actually bought the computer with the intention of installing Yosemite on it, as I don't make a habit of installing beta OSs on my main computer).

In any case, it has 4gb of RAM and has what I think is the original 320gb HDD.

Booting is slow, but once the computer is up I don't notice any difference in useability between it and Mavericks on the same machine. I'm planning on putting an SSD in it, and am hoping that will perk it up.

Other than boot time, I actually don't notice any difference in the Macbook running Yosemite and my "daily driver" 13" mid-2011 MBP running Maverics for web browsing and other light uses.

I'm running the public beta on my 15" mid 2009 MBP with 8GB ram and a 64GB Samsung 470Pro. It runs fine for what I use it for which is really only surfing and email.

Thank you. Yes booting is slow in Macericks on my Mac but when it gets up it's okay. I don't have the money for an SSD and how much would a 500 GB SSD COST? Too much so I will get another Mac when mine breaks. My mom has the same Mac model but never moved past Leopard and hers is much faster even with only 2 GBS of Ram and I have 6 in mine.

Or get more RAM. That's what I did and it boosted performance by at least 25%.
