Hi guys,
Quick forum search turned up nothing on with this sort of title, so I thought I would make my own post about it.
The following points are being made through my own observations, so if yours are different please say. My machine is a MBP 15" e2011 for the record.
In June, because of a photography job, I upgraded to a 250GB 840 EVO with the intention of speeding things up a bit, as well as giving more space to the 128GB SSD I had from manufacture. It was alrightish performance increase, but then when I 'upgraded' to the Yosemite Beta, knowing that because it was a Beta the performance would likely be slightly off, I noticed a *massive* performance decrease. This has carried all the way through to the Golden Master which just got released, as you all know.
Now, my computer has 4GB of RAM, so I don't know if that has a killer bearing on the performance for this particular machine, but in my case, almost everything, animations, boot, load times for applications and general processing has been slowed right down. For example, my encode times in iTunes for CD to ALAC and then from ALAC to MP3 for my i6 literally quartered from Mavericks to the Golden Master.
Is it just because of my 'old' hardware that this is very apparent? Animations I can understand, as a 6490m is just generally appalling, and the HD 3000 is nothing to shout about, but when animations take several seconds to complete, I would not have thought this was the norm.
What are your guys thoughts / experiences on the matter with whatever hardware you may have. By the way, it is likely that I will be looking into a new machine upon the release of Broadwell, but for the time being, I was just curious if this is a problem for more than just myself and HDD users...
Thanks in advance
Jack
