I searched and didn't find any threads on this.

I've got a late 2011 15" MBP. I think it's 8gb RAM. I installed Yosemite a few weeks ago. Now, on every start-up, I get a delay with the grey progress bar. It's almost like a Windows machine that loads new updates every time the computer started.

I assume this is not normal? Is there anything to stop it?

Interesting.
But why is it happening on every start-up? Is that normal? I'm pretty sure I didn't get the rainbow spinner whenever I started the computer.

(And now I see that a thread asking the same question was started two days ago. Not sure why I didn't find it when I searched. Sorry.)

They just changed it, it is how it is.

As to the spinning rainbow-coloured beachball, that is typically a sign that the OS isn’t finished loading yet. I had that when I installed the beta on my external HD, which reads/writes significantly slower than my SSD. It could have something to do with your hard drive, but there is nothing to worry.

I've noticed the same thing, I think its just to do with it being a more complex operating system.

I have a 2012 MBP Retina with 8gb of ram (SSD) and on Mavericks it'd load from putting the password in to loaded in seconds with no bar or spinner.

On Yosemite it now takes 12-20 seconds with a progress bar, i've noticed startup is significantly slower (even with a clean install, etc).

Just part of the fun (not)!
