So, lately I've noticed that new desktops are being created. I enter Mission Control and, just today, another one is there. I end up closing them, but to do so there's no X there by default if I hover over them, I have to add another one to get the X's to close the "self-created" ones.

A bug I'm sure, but has anyone else had this? Is it something I'm doing?

If it's a bug, I'd say it's one of the more humorous bugs lol.

Now there's 4 more desktops created out of nowhere. It seems to happen on every restart or logout/login.

A few things to try:
  • Repair permissions in Disk Utility and reboot.
  • Reset PRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
  • Create a new user, reboot and login to the new user.
  • Boot into safe mode (hold down shift-key while rebooting).
Try these and see if any of them helps.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I know none of them will have any affect or be a remedy. I already repaired permissions very recently, PRAM is most likely fine, not going to go through the hassle of creating a new user, and not going to boot into safe mode (what's the point of that even).

It's definitely a bug of some sort. I have a very clean install, and I can't afford the time to try these that I know aren't going to be relevant or helpful anyways.

Thanks though, but I need something more specific instead of the generic battery of "tests."

So what I'm wondering is if anyone else has experienced this, and if they know anything specific about this. Anyone?

The point of what I was suggesting was that maybe something you have installed is affecting and causing the issue. I have not seen the issue and when I enter mission control no new desktops are created on any of my Macs, only the ones I create.

Safe mode only load OS kernel extensions. It is a way to test if there are anything third party installed that could be causing an issue. You can read more about: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262.

Testing a new user account can tell if there is anything corrupted in a user account if the issue does not happen in the new user account.

Sometimes determining what is causing an issue takes multiple steps to determine what is causing the problem.
