I am not sure if its the new osx that is causing the issues, but I want to make sure if others are facing similiar issues as I am.

- after a long sleep, the laptop won't turn on from sleep, and need to hard reset by pressing the shutdown button for 10 sectonds

- boot time from login page is long after a shut down. There is this loading bar, which takes about a minute before booting into the osx.

Anyone facing similiar issues? If so any suggestion on fixing them?

Thanks.

I currently have macbook retina 13 inch early 2013 model.

Re: slow login/boot: do you have a gray login screen? If so, you have FileVault enabled (can happen during Yosemite install), so, system is decrypting the drive before it actually boots and logs in.

Select your Mac HD drive on the desktop and do a "Get Info". If encrypted, you will see "Journaled Encrypted" as part of the disk format.

Or: Settings > Security & Privacy, click FileVault tab to find FileVault on/off status.

Hi, FileVault is turned on. Is there any harm to turning it off, if it will increase the speed time of the boot?

I have the same model in the 2014 version (identical pretty much) and I have FileVault turned on.

With FV on when you boot it actually does not go straight to the OS. That login screen is served up from the recovery partition, and only after you enter your password, does it unlock the main partition and boot the OS. That is when you are seeing that grey progress bar, and that is normal.

From the time I enter the password mine takes maybe 15-20 seconds to get to the desktop. Yours might be a little longer if you have a bunch of startup items running. but a full 60 seconds sounds long.

I am trouble by the need to hard shutdown after sleep though. That is not right at all. So you just logout then close the lid? Then open the lid and what happens?

Try a verify disk in Disk Util and see if that reports anything amiss.

You may not need to do a hard reset. I've noticed on my wife's 2014 Air, at times it can take an eternity to wake from sleep. I was also doing hard resets but, in the end I realized the display stays black for a long time then, eventually, will come out of sleep. Happened with the delivered Mavericks as well as a fresh Yosemite install.

Its magic. A small part of the magic with this Air that caused me to cancel 2 other replacement Mac's. I'm tired of chasing down issues with Mac's. The old ones work, they're good enough.
