Yosemite touched me inappropriately :(

This is the frightening sight of my Disk Utility view of my HDD right now:

As you can see, on the 1TB HDD in my 2011 27" iMac, I have a massive grey hole between my Macintosh HD partition and my BOOTCAMP partition. The grey hole is 100 GB in size. How did it get there? Here's how:

Before installing this pretty little Yosemite beta, I set aside a 100 GB partition on my HDD for it. I found the Yosemite beta was not to my liking, so I went back into Mavericks, opened Disk Utility, selected the partition with Yosemite on it, and deleted that partition.
But now, I've got a 100 GB hole in my HDD that I can't fill back up with the Macintosh HD partition. Adding insult to injury, my BOOTCAMP partition is completely FUBAR and gives me a "No bootable disk" message on startup.

My one ace in the hole (I hope), is this:

Everything from my Macintosh HDD partition is backed up about as legitimately as can be (right?) on an external HDD.
This would lead me to believe I can just completely format my iMac HDD (I don't care about the BOOTCAMP stuff) and reinstall everything via Time Machine. But I've heard that after I go through all that trouble, I'll still have a 100 GB hole in my hard drive because... Yosemite.

So, can anybody help me out here? I promise I've learned my lesson. No more frightening beta tests for my baby!

I tried. Several times. Even restarted the computer, and still no luck.
I pull the "Macintosh HD" partition down to cover the grey space. Click apply. Click partition. Watch the loading bar and... it puts me right back to where I started with the grey area still there.
I literally just tried it again before writing this post, and got the same result.

I see no other solution than backing up your data and restore your hard drive. That should solve your problem.

Did you try booting into the recovery and then resize?

Failing that, I'd say backup your data, delete the partition and then recreate it.

Hold the thought of reformatting for a moment.

-Restart the Mac, immediately press and hold Command + S keys to boot in Single-user mode.
-In the command prompt, run the command: /sbin/fsck -fy or just: fsck -fy
-When the process is finished, type reboot
-Launch Disk Utility, Select the Disk and click ‘Verify Disk’.

The you should be able to resize it again.
Worked for me in a similar situation.

Bootcamp is designed to only work with two partitions, as it looks for the Bootcamp partition on the second partition.

You can fix this by installing reFIT....that should take care of that. It will give you a boot menu when you start up...select the one that you want.

Seconding this. I had issues with partitioning earlier too, but after doing those steps, I was able to delete the partition, verify/repair everything using Disk Utility, then repartition.

I deleted my BOOTCAMP partition so I could finally enter Single User Mode, and finally got there.
This is the result of my time spent in Single User Mode:

As you can see, once in Single User Mode I typed in: /sbin/fsck/ -fy
...exactly as you suggested. That resulted in a line that read:
-sh: /sbin/fsck/: Not a directory
I have no idea what that means, but I guess your suggestion didn't work?Everything typed below that was suggested to me by a friend I was conversing with online who knows about this stuff. Unfortunately, he's stumped at this point too. Any more help would be appreciated!

UPDATE: Upon forcing a restart and booting into Mavericks, I opened up Disk Utility to see how the partition looked and...

Yeah! I don't know how, but the hole just went away! I guess... does this mean I'm safe? I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but this almost seems too easy... any way I can double-check this?

Yeah. Sorry. Anyway that just gave me errors. Then I tried typing only fsck -fy and that worked.

*facepalm* Shoot, so THAT'S why it didn't work! I guess I was looking at the same thing so many times, I forgot what I was looking for... oh, well! I'm re-installing my BOOTCAMP partition now... everything should be okay with the computer despite typing that in wrong, right?
