Yosemite Trash Not Storing "Trashed" Files

Yosemite newbie here - when I try to "Move to Trash", I get a "will be deleted immediately" dialog. Is there a config somewhere that can restore the "normal" Trash folder behavior? The Finder Preferences menu doesn't seem to have any parameters for this issue.

An application is holding onto the file. This sometimes happen if you attach a file to a e-mail being sent. Logout of your account and log back in again. Then try to delete the file again. This is not exclusive to Yosemite.

Also if you sometimes try to empty your trash the system will report that the file can't be emptied. When this happens click on File->Secure Empty Trash.

The behavior happens with every file I try - some are years old. Tried rebooting, same thing happens.

Research on another site suggested looking for the ~/.Trash folder. Turns out mine is missing . Any suggestions as to how to restore this?

To recreate your missing .Trash folder
In Terminal:

mkdir ~/.Trash
chmod go= ~/.Trash
killall Finder

Didn't solve the problem

Thanks for the tip, that recreated the .Trash folder, but the initial behavior remains - get an "immediate delete?" message.

Also, repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch the .Trash folder.

If you create a new user does the behavior happen in the new account? Create the user to the same level as your current account. In other words, if your account is an admin account create the new user admin account.
