I use my 15" rmbp for work. The problem is, when I have more than 10 windows opened, the display server becomes compeltely unresponsive.
The window manager feels like its working at sub 1FPS, moving windows/resizing is impossible, expose becomes useless and fans run at max speed (super loud and hot).

When I close a few windows back down to sub 10, I get about 10-15fps (thanks yosemite, mavericks used to do 20-25).

I am in the green for memory pressure, CPU util. sub 15% most of the time.

The only way to 'fix this' is to reset the display server every 30 minutes and effectively close everything that was opened (almost as bad as having to reboot every 30 minutes).

I use the machine for work, and 10+ windows is a norm (3-6 braintree windows, 2-3 atom windows, iterm, 3 web browser windows, finder, spotify, hipchat, skype, irc).

Anyone else experiencing this? Would clean re-install help? Anyone experiencing this on 16gb rmbp?

Please advice. I really don't know what to do, I can't afford to buy another computer because of this, but I also can't work this way (the desktop is completely unresponsive).

Sell it and buy a MBA. Retina laptops are not quite there yet in regards to software optimisation.

I have a mid 2014 retina 15 inches with 16 GB of ram, and no lag with yosemite UI so how much ram do you have, and what year is your rmbp ? More ram means more open apps/programs. Hope your reboot the system as well from time to time which could cause some of the issues. I would suggest going to System Preferences>Accessibility>Display and enabling "Reduce Transparency" to see if that helps

No problems with my 15" rMBP. Late 2013, dGPU, two Dell 4k P2715Q displays connected. I use Merlin, FCPX, AutoCAD, Parallels Desktop, Photoshop/Illustrator CC, Office 2011/2016, iTunes with a few thousand albums/CDs. No lags whatsoever.

Pretty much the same with my 2012 Mini Server with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics.

I should probably do a fresh install, but I can't since this is the only production machine I have. It also does BSOD every day these days.

You need to double-check this, heat to cause the fans to run normally comes from the CPU/GPU under load, find the load and your will know what is causing the unresponsiveness.

If you can't find the CPU load then take it for service - but that would mean two unrelated faults as far as I can see so I'd seriously expect it to be a load issue and the heat and fans coming from that.

BSOD is a windows term, did you forget to mention any windows VMs running??

I tried removing X11, Xquartz, and setting dedicated GPU in gfxCardStatus. Most of slowdown comes after GPU switching (I think).

early 2015 13" rMBP, 16gb of ram and the ui lag is there. Tried even other machines at the store and every one has the lags. I have to admit that the 15" it's less laggy, but the lag is present even there.

Hope apple is going to fix it in the next release

Thanks, I was thinking about getting one of those, but not anymore I guess. Will wait for Skylake & for apple to fix some bugs.

consider that this is not an hardware issue, the must fix that ;)

[it seems that the situation with the 10.10.4 is better, let's hope they release the update at the wwdc]
