Yosemite Upgrade on Mountain Lion

I currently have Moutain Lion 10.8.5 (12F45) installed on my Macbook Pro "15 inch (non retina) 2012 model laptop.

I wanted to know if Yosemite would install seamlessly should I choose to upgrade from my version on Mountain Lion?

Currently there is around 144GB left on my hdd, I'm running 8GB of ram with a 2.6Ghz core intel core i7 cpu, and

intel HD Graphics 4000 384MB.



I'm worried it may break my OS someway and not install properly (never upgraded an OS on Mac before). Would

greatly appreciate any ideas and thoughts on this matter.



Also would anyone know if the new Yosemite allows for a separate install of Windows (bootcamp)?

Do you already have a Time Machine backup?

Download the update but don't let it install (just cancel it when it starts). The installer file will be in your Applications folder, copy it elsewhere (this will enable you to do a fresh installer if ever required)

Make sure you have an up to date backup, then run the installer from your Applications folder.

Overwhelmingly this will result in a problem-free install.

If you hit problems, or want to revert then you can
1. Option-boot off your Time Machine drive and restore your previous OS, or
2. You can copy the Yosemite installer to your Time Machine, that will allow you to boot from your Time Machine and wipe and fresh install Yosemite, then restore your user data from the Time Machine backup.

In a more complicated way you could add another partition to your disk and install Yosemite, test it then carry out the install above but that is more complicated.

I love clean installs! Best way to treat a Mac.

quite frankly I'd upgrade to mavericks, yosemite is not quite ripe yet unless you just have to have handoff.

Lots of machines out there that don't and won't support Handoff, I'm having as good an experience on Yosemite as on Mavericks but I also have SMS and phone continuity....seriously most users need to upgrade and see for themselves.

Certainly the WiFi issues seem quite linked to Handoff so any non-Handoff machines should also be clear of any WiFi issues.

I dont have any i devices other than appletv. wifi has no issues until I mirror with appletv. but its not consistent, sometimes a reboot fixes , sometimes it doesn't

Run one of the apps that shows how the WiFi channels around you are in use, it sounds like you have low WiFi throughput, possibly just through interference.
