When I change my volume the indicator takes a little while to appear. The sound is instant though. If I change volume very soon after I just did then it will reappear instantly, otherwise it takes a while. Same thing happens with the other indicators (brightness & kboard brightness). The old indicator would always appear instantly.

It's instantaneous for me. Have you restarted since you installed Yosemite? Some post-install maintenance could be slowing it down.

No I've had this ever since beta 1 and I have had plenty of restarts since.

I think the problem may be that the new indicator is graphic-intensive, so it takes a while to initialize or whatever the graphics card to load it... or whatever

You probably have a powerful Mac so it appears instant

That could be, I have a top end 2013 15" rMBP. What are your specs?

mid 2009 mbp 25 inch 2.66ghz intel core 2 duo nvidia geforce 9600m gt 256mb 1440x900 4gb 1067mhz ddr3 10.10 yosemite

mine takes forever too and the "tick tick tick" noise it would make as it went up and down is gone as well.
