All 5 of the new wallpaper photographs of Yosemite have compression artifacts! Look closely and you see squares. Compare this to the Mavericks wallpapers and Lion, etc. This really annoys me!!!

I only see this when using this as desktop background. if I open in Preview I do not see it. This happens on both iMac and MacBook Pro.

It's actually a really nice site. I get all of my backgrounds from there. There is no need to be so rude to people that are trying to help.

I was complaining about how the default wallpapers have annoying compression artifacts, not that I needed a wallpaper. And the Yosemite photographs are really nice, it sucks that there are these artifacts. And all those Macs out there with those wallpapers and people staring at them, noticing the artifacts :( You should`ve thought that that would not be helpful

Couldn't agree more. The 'most downloaded' bit of that website actually had a few really nice photos. I actually really like the Yosemite wallpapers, but it's nice to have an option for National Geographic style scenes that are photographed in low light conditions: the darker colours can work better for wallpapers.

Apple have a 5K image up on their website, which is detailed enough to avoid seeing artefacts.

Would you like a hug? Would that make you feel better?

Did you seriously just call linking you a free site an advertisement?

Also, a free site that is ONLY THE BEST WALLPAPER SITE ON THE INTERNET?? :(

It's only logical that people would assume you might prefer other wallpapers over the ones you say have compression artifacts.

Complaining here isn't going to do anything to increase the quality of the default wallpapers. Can't you at least acknowledge the kindness of the person who offered to try and fix your problem?

But hey, if you just wanna cross your arms and pout, that's your right.

Word. People may complain here but it's usually in search of a solution. And that's what was offered. A very good one too.

Just tested all the new Yosemite wallpapers on my cMBP late-2011. No squares or compression artifacts, as far as I can see. I'm not sure if it's more obvious on retina screens, though.

BTW, thanks, ABC5S, for the link. Nice wallpapers, indeed! :)

It actually wasn't an advertisement. It was a recommendation.

What is irrelevant is your attitude to someone trying to help you.

The default wallpapers on Windows are even worse I noticed. Especially the blue one of the hot air balloon is bad. And resolutions are only up to 1920 x 1200.
