Yosemite, you Memory hog, you!

Running DP2 (Don't call it a beta) on my retina Macbook Pro.

16GB of memory and I am sitting here looking at my iStats menu and memory usage almost completely filled.

The computer lags. Webpages take a long time to load.

Computer already crashed (restarted) once -- something that never, ever happens.

Not seeing this on my 27" iMac, but then again, I have 32GB of memory on that.

Just hope the next DP or Beta fixes the huge memory problem.

Memory pressure is indicated by color:

Green – RAM memory resources are available.
Amber – RAM memory resources are being tasked.
Red – RAM memory resources are depleted and OS X is using the drive for memory.

It's always possible that there's a memory leak somewhere--it is a DP after all. I haven't seen anything like that yet, but I've spent only a little time using DP2 on an external SSD with nothing else installed except the Xcode 6 beta. I managed to crash DP1, but DP2 has been stable and snappy in my limited usage on my my Mac mini (Late 2012) with 16GB of RAM.

I wouldn't pay any attention to iStats memory reporting. You can watch Activity Monitor, and see what it reports for memory pressure (as small white car pointed out) and swap usage. Mavericks and Yosemite both cache a lot in RAM, so you may have less "empty"/"free" RAM without there really being a memory shortage.

You definitely want to look in Activity Monitor to check that iStat Menus isn't simply misrepresenting how full the RAM actually is; I know when you boot into safe mode that iStat menus reports the RAM as full when it isn't, so something similar could be happening.

Activity Monitor will also help you to find out what's actually hogging the memory; there may be a single offending process that's at fault for some reason specific to you.

As an aside, you notice the "tip"?

Tip: If the Red state occurs, quitting apps can free up RAM. You may also be able to install more RAM to prevent memory depletion.

I wonder how long until they have to change that to add: "but we're making that next to impossible so maybe not"

Perhaps this app is a tad broken in Yosemite however I wouldn't be too concerned

My Macbook Pro (2013) Shows the below image

16GB Physical Memory (RAM)
16GB Virtual Memory (Disk)
15GB Used

This app doesn't actually show how much of that memory is in RAM vs Virtual.

Think of RAM + Virtual as combined. Stuff in RAM needs quick access, stuff 'paged out' to virtual memory does not. 'Paged Out' means written to non-volatile storage on the disk. It looks like apple has this preconfigured to 16GB of your storage space.

I added up the total memory of all of my running processes and it was about 1/4 of the physical memory. My conclusion is that the app has either never worked properly, or that they need to go and rewrite the UI to do some user education.
