You know I was thinking that the apple apps that do this kind of tracking could be illegal in the EU.

There are a lot of apps doing this kind of usage tracking and here is an interesting article about another usage tracking system i.e. Phorm:

There are app store apps that have been sending data with UID and personal info to their own servers for no purpose except tracking.
