If you hover your mouse over a message in iMessage in Mac OS X, it comes up with the timestamp.

I know a lot of people (including myself) want to be able to see timestamps for all messages, so this is a little workaround for now until Apple (hopefully...) allow it properly.

Unfortunately it doesn't work in iOS though... annoying huh

Don't use Dropbox images!

Dropbox images are volatile/temporary as you will likely clean out the files that you have linked.

DON"T USE THEM ON FORUMS because then situations like the above occur where the image link is broken.

Sux there isn't a way to just turn on timestamps per message.

You can turn on time stamps per message you have to change the view to list and it shows time, will post a screenshot in a bit not at my MBP yet :)

iOS 8 & OS X Yosemite

As mentioned above, on Macs with the Messages app, you are able to see the timestamp for each message by hovering over a message and giving it a second for the tooltip to show up displaying when the message was sent.

On the iOS devices running at least iOS 7 I believe, you are able to see ALL timestamps in Messages by swiping a message to the LEFT which slides the messages revealing all the timestamps on the right of each message.
