All you need is Handbrake which is free to download. You can rip DVDs to your hard drive with a combo drive as all you need it to do is to read the disc.

Yea Handbrake is the greatest app ever! Just use the apple TV setting and everything will be all good. Currently ripping some shows as we speak.

apple tv setiing works best if u only wanna watch it on an apple tv. if u want it to work with all ipods,iphones etc, use the hi res ipod setting then manually adjust the bitrates and resolution and it will work with any device.
