Get the appstore app called air video

Then download the airvideo program to your pc or mac , make sure you get the beta version from there forum

Now you can airplay your mkv movies to the apple tv

No need to convert your movies to mp4, air video does a live conversion & streams the movie file in seconds

What other appstore streaming apps are out there?

So far i have only tried air video

Well your welcome

Maybe some one in the world wide web found use for this info lol

yes it does....but it doesn't stream 1080p or let me zoom the ratio on my stupid un zoomable tv. If it had zoom it would be the perfect solution for me.

no 5.1 through airplay for air video is the big downside right now. hopefully that's coming in an update.

Yes Airvideo can stream MKV's, but only via an iOS device. It can't stream direct to the aTV can it?

If you install the beta version from there website, you can stream mkv ect to your ATV2.

Don't see any options to stream directly to ATV2. Could you please point me ?

did you install the beta program on your pc or mac?

then after that get the latest air video app from the appstore to your iphone or ipod or ipad

when you play a video on your idevice you will see the airplay button on the right like you do with youtube

click it & select the apple tv

airvideo can stream almost any video format

Thanks Che - I'll give that a try when I get home tonight.

I don't believe the ATV2 supports 1080p at this time. Maybe in the future with a firmware update it may.

Your TV may have Zoom, just that you haven't discovered it yet.
What brand/model is it?

You can't stream directly from the computer to the Apple TV using Air Video. But you can stream indirectly, ie from the computer to the iOS device and from there to the Apple TV via AirPlay.

To stream directly would require either the Air Video Server to support AirPlay itself (Apple doesn't seem to be licensing this outside of iOS at the moment), or else an Air Video client app for a jailbroken Apple TV.

Yes, but from a user perspective that's pretty transparent. I had a chance to play wit it this weekend - and for nearly all the video types I have airplay with the beta server allows me to play them easily on my ATV2. I like :)
