Personally I am starting to find the current line somewhat too pokey, anyone foresee a new one in the near horizon? After all Intel did gave Apple their price cut and they are now gorging on us!!!

They are so moving to Intel Core 2 Duo chips when they come out, personally I'm waiting to see performance figures for Intel's new onboard video processor called the X3000

Supposedly it's a leap ahead the GMA 950

The Core Solos are probably more expensive than the G4's used in the original Mac Minis, actually. Not only that, but they've added Wifi, Bluetooth, Front Row with remote and more to the current Mac Minis. Hardly "gorging" on you.

Well they certainly aren't doing anyone any favors since they are at the same price point when they released, and at the present day! Intel did gave them a price cut towards the end of May but as consumers we have yet to see that materialise

Well as a quick comparison...

Clock Speed
GMA 950 - 400MHz
GMA X3000 - 667MHz

Shaders
GMA 950 - Shader Model 2.0
GMA X3000 - Shader Model 3.0

DirectX + OpenGL
GMA 950 - DX 9.0/OpenGL v1.4
GMA X3000 - DX 9.0c/OpenGL v1.5

So yes, it's quite a big leap over the GMA 950, especially in shaders. I'm guessing the Mini and MacBook will get the GMA X3000 around Sept/Oct, which is probably the time when they'll get the upgrade to Core 2 Duos.

We should see a speed bump very soon for the Mac Mini because the MacBook Pro got a quiet bump after a few months. I see the Mac Mini and MacBook should get something around the same time.

the X3000 will support shader model 4, and most importantly it'll support hardware T&L.

My guess is maybe next year so parallels can support Vista on most macs...

The Mini could've gotten a speed bump after the Intel price drop, but didn't. The Mini could get a first generation Napa Core 2 Duo in September, after the release of the interim first-generation Meroms, but probably won't for awhile. The Mini probably won't get Intel's Crestline video until the motherboard is redesigned for the 2nd generation Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo, due out the first half of 2007. And it will probably be the last of the Macs to get it. But like everything above, this is pure speculation.

Crestline video is the codename for the all new "oohh seksy" Intel Integrated Graphics solution aka x3000?

link to source because x3000 info is crazy hard to find
