I've been messing around with my iPad for a while and all was going good until I opened up a Sketching app. The background was white and I noticed a black dot right in the center of the screen. Thinking it was dust or some kind of smudge or something, I go to wipe it off, only to see that it won't come off. It must be something under the screen.

You may think I'm being picky and that I should be grateful that I got an iPad today, and I am. I'm only complaining because it is SMACK in the middle of the screen, and now that I know it's there I won't forget it. I don't know what I should do. I'm thinking about calling my Apple store and seeing what they say.

What do you guys suggest / think they'll say?

Ah that must be it. I guess I should call them up and see what they say about it?

You'll get a new replacement from AppleCare (just the iPad, not a retail box) if you'd like. If you wait, in a week or two Apple Stores can likely replace the displays, but I haven't had good luck with that. I went through three iPhone 3GS's because of something being under the screen and kept the third with a speck of dust. Hopefully my luck will be as good as with MacBook Pro when I pick up my iPad.

LOL, at the above.. sorry but it sounds like a dead pixel - I wonder what their policy will be on the ipad and dead pixels.. :/ call apple support and post back!

I feel like an ass right now but it's literally right in the middle of the screen. I'm gonna call the store where I bought it just to see what they say.

Nah. They'll give you a whole new boxed one.

Not sure if you pre-ordered or not, and if so if today counts as date of purchase but if it does than you may be able to wait a few days until demand dies down and return it to any Apple Store and get another one. You have 14 days from date of purchase. This way you won't need an appointment and have to go through the genius bar which may take significantly longer.

Also, I have restored what I though were dead pixels on newish electronics by just pressing hard with my finger right on top of the pixel. Worked on my MacBook Pro. Good Luck.

Like the OP said it could also be a piece of trash under the glass. May not be a dead pixel. Either way I would get it replaced.

I am posting this with my new iPad and the built in keyboard is simply awesome!

Just called. They told me to bring it all in and they will check it out.

This is why I love Apple. I was in and out in under 10 minutes, and now have a perfect iPad. :D

Good story. Honestly with how busy they are today I can't imagine them giving you trouble ieven if apple had terrible customer service.

Yup it was a whole new boxed one. Re syncing all my stuff right now.

Same here stuck pixel in center of screen. I have an appointment at 7 pm to get it swapped out. Poor iPad not even a day old.
