I've been wanting to pick up an ipad3 and was just wondering if apple plans on dropping the price with the mini and the revamp coming out in the next month?

don't think so. ipad mini will be the low-mid end tablet device and iPad 3 will be the high end.

the iPad 3 price drop will only be in feb-march when the next ipad comes out

One possibility would be that Apple will drop iPad 2 together with iPad 3 (the new iPad), and replace them with a revised, possibly 4th generation full-sized iPad, so that we will see two lines of iPads: full-sized and mini, and no more two kinds of full-sized iPads, one being cheaper than the other.

My reasons are based on the circulating rumors of the imminent release of the mini, and, more importantly, that the new iPad was Apple's secondary plan as the replacement for iPad 2: it has the lowest profit margin due to its high production and component costs, which were forced upon Apple due to the lack of adequate technologies at the time of release. I don't see Apple retaining the new iPad line as it is, just to make it a cheap alternative to the next generation iPads, especially when considering its already small profit margin.

Rule for high end brand name products: if demand is high and supply low, raise prices. If demand is low and supply high, discontinue item. If you are selling android and windows devices, you do a BOGO deal!

It's apple we are talking about. They'd sell you a stupid 30-pin to lightning adapter for $30. They aren't in it to make you a deal and make you feel special.

Unless you know of a time when apple has dropped the price mid-cycle, why are you asking?

They won't. iPad 3 will remain the king of iPads till iPad 4 comes out next year. The iPad Mini will be much inferior to the iPad 3, thus cementing the price difference between them.

So is now a good time to buy an iPad?

Will there be Lightning connector version released this year?

I think prices will rise up $100 across the board to make room for a $400 mini. That's my arrogant opinion.

That's the $64k question. I read an article on RealClearTechnology.com that said there are rumors that Apple might do a mini refresh on the iPad 3 to add the lightning connector.

Unless you have to have one right now, my recommendation would be to wait until the end of this month (October) as many rumors seem to indicate that an iPad mini will be announced this month.

Just speculation on my part, but if Apple is planning a refresh on the iPad 3, I would think that they would announce it along with the iPad mini.

Another option is to find either a refurbished or used iPad 2 and use it until the iPad 3 is refreshed with the lightning connector. Then sell the iPad 2.
