An app that uses the camera to view a word document or text book page then enables you to search for a specific word within that text. Wonder if something like that will ever be possible.... I would pay for something like that easily.

btw developers feel free to steal this idea, this app will help me do my homework 100 times more easily

they have apps which you can photograph a page and then have OCR software scan it...

ETA: But in your use case - how lazy are you? How long does it take you to scan a page with your eyes. Faster than taking a picture and relying on an app I would imagine.

Ah the younger generation who has ZERO patience.

it has nothing to do with laziness, and everything to do with efficiency. Thus the wonders of technology, anything can be related to being lazy.

No. In this case I think it's laziness. Again - any app would likely take longer top open/run then it would be to scan for the word you're looking for...

Genius Scan is an app that does some of this...and it's free

thank you, the rest of you thanks for contributing nothing to this thread sell your iphones and do your banking through actual banks, read emails on your desktop, google music lyrics instead of using shazam

you're all being lazy

I really appreciate the idea of such an app. It of course would have to be relatively fast on searching text, maybe even by voice control.

But I am constantly having the feeling of needing to press command-f to lookup some word in a real-life several-pages document. And I can't remember any time in my life where my built-in scanning and search mechansims actually worked quite well and efficiant here.

So, yes, I'd pay for such an app immidiately!

No. The above items you list actually increase productivity. And your last example is a complete misfire. If you don't know the name of the song - short of singing it for a friend or hoping it comes on the radio - the only way to identify it and get the lyrics is via a tool like Shazam.

My observation is that you want an app to scan a page for a word. You didn't say document - you said word. And I firmly believe it will take you far longer to run and app to do this vs just scanning the page with your eyes.

So not only is it lazy in my opinion - but the opposite of efficient.

I'm talking about pages and pages of words.... Like a book not a single page

Think about it

And my last example was not a complete misfire... In order to tag a song in shazam the song has to be playing....no? So open safari and google the words he's singing instead

I'm confused.

Exactly....

Again - it still seems more labor intensive to snap a picture of every page and then do a search vs scanning the book yourself...

Now - if the book were available as an e-Book - searching would be easy and practical

Most of us aren't androids. I'm not saying I'd use this app (I'm sure I wouldn't, actually) but I am certain I can't read as fast as a computer.

Seems like an odd position to be taking.

I guess you have to weigh the work vs benefit. I don't see myself wanting to take pictures (with good light, straight on, getting the full page in, focused) of 100 pages in book vs just scanning it with my eyes. Sounds labor intensive.

Now - admittingly - I read very fast and scan even faster (occupational hazard).

The OP originally said PAGE - not book or PAGES. So my commentary was based on that - the time it takes to scan/search seems counter efficient.
