you think?
What's your average download and upload speed? And what kind of content do you stream? HD movies?Yes. I stream everything wirelessly from an external hard drive connected to my MBP and it works beautifully.

I was talking about streaming from my Mac to my AppleTV, not about over the internet. My speeds are good there - 15 down and about 3 up.
I do stream 720P content and it works great. Standard definition is flawless. The only problems I have are fast forwarding and rewinding which is more a function of the laggy ATV remote and the slower processor. Otherwise I couldn't be happier. The only reason I am thinking about getting the new ATV is for the Netflix streaming.
does having more RAM effect the speed? 4 is enough?
ATV does not support .AVI's.
what do i have to do then for AVI'S to work? and does it support wmv?
You'd have to convert it to a format that does work. And no it doesn't support wmv either. Here's a list of what it does support.
yeah, you know, I've had an old macbook pro setup on my tv to stream movies from my mac pro in the office to the living room using front row on the mbp. I think the reason I came by here to read this forum is that I am interested in the appleTv to finally replace and offload the old mbp, but I find it odd that the tag line for the new appleTv says stream "iTunes music and photos from your computer" but no mention of movies or TV shows or video content from your computer. It gives me a slight pause. Now, I know they are simply trying to keep you from having the idea to do it if you haven't already (so you rent/dl it all instead), but certainly if its in itunes, you can play it on the new appletv regardless if its video or music. Right? Right?
Plus, would you be able to link to content in the "movies" folder on your mac in the other room like you can in front row currently?
argh...and there's no way to hack it to play these files?
I too noticed that and am curious because I don't want to stream from my iPhone or iPad I want to stream movies from my iTunes on my Mac directly to my TV without going through iOS.
I plan an contacting Apple about this after the weekend.
If it's on your iPhone or iPad it'll be in iTunes, and you will be able to stream from iTunes on your Mac toTV
