Yet another example of how you can do pretty much anything you want to with the Android platform. With iOS you won't be doing this any time soon.

Oh and your wrong

Go ahead, I'm listening. I can't wait to hear this one.

I'm sure that was the easiest thing to set up ;)

Never said this set up was the easiest or fastest. I said you won't be doing this with iOS any time soon. The point was to show that you can do just about anything you want to on Android. With iOS you can't consider something like this. I know there are apps on iOS that work with home automation brands like Z Wave, but he took it much further than that.

This is the nature of Google's business model with Android. They want the OS on fridges, TV's, dishwashers, etc.. And then interlink everything and anything. The very nature of Android ensures continued expansion and sustainment.

However, can we say for certain that this can't be done with iDevices? I honestly don't know?

You can do this with an iOS device.... Maybe not via voice commands but home automation has been on iOS for a while now.

So what you're saying is you can't do it. lol.

This is doing a lot more than just controlling Zwave devices. I know home automation remote control apps are available on iOS, but this goes much further than that. Just watch the video, that is MUCH more than just controlling Zwave.

Agreed. Another great thing that makes Android > iOS and defenders come to claim this is useless.

This was very cool to see and very impressive. The voice control worked great and the response was almost immediate.

A few years ago I would have loved to have something like this in my home. Not just for the lazy factor but for the tech factor too. However, now I would rather just get up and take a couple steps to turn the lights on and off instead of spend time setting it up and playing with it.

I'm glad this integration can be done for those that want it because it pushes for even more advances with smartphones. I already knew if I wanted ultimate customization I should switch over to Android.

Android fanboys and Apple haters, get your lotion and kleenex out!!!

Oh, and Android wasn't the first to have home automation, you do realize this right? I know it's hard to believe, but Android wasn't the first to have everything.

My dad had a gizmo that turned on the light through clapping, and every single TV I have ever owned has had a remote control (including my Panasonic Viera, which has an iOS app that works as a remote). I do not see this as a big deal.

No doubt home automation is coming, but I expect that there will have to be some standardized protocol for operating intelligent home appliances before it becomes useful. I wouldn't invest in such a system now, for it is likely to appear dated even after just a few years. Also, ever try to get a replacement IC chip for a home alarm system or 'intelligent' heating system? Putting a specialized front end to a house's electrics is likely to lead to expensive upgrades.... I suppose if one has money and is easily amused, this might be worth it. On my part, however, I am waiting for domestic robots that will do the cleaning (and, no, I am not joking about this).

I was blown away initially, but it got pretty old after he just kept turning on/off his lights 20 times. I wish he would've done some other stuff, that seemed kind of laborious.

Um, he did.

Obviously you didn't watch the video.

He turned the TV on, put Netflix on, had it changing, it was sweet.

IOS does it, but Android does it RIGHT

You can control your house with your voice on iOS? Because I think that was the point.

Am I the only person who has a problem with talking to my phone? I feel like a weirdo talking to a piece of metal and plastic.
Only use I see in that would be to turn your lights on before you get home, but the cost for such a system isn't nearly justified for me.

Some are lazier than others I suppose.

So we know how much the system costs? Or are you just speculating?

Also, you talk to your phone when using Google Now or Siri or whatever Microsoft calls it (I forget). TellMe?

Yeah I saw that, it wasn't anything I couldn't do with Siri and AirPlay.

Have to agree. Don't get me wrong, I found it rather cool and personally would love a similar setup. But certain things seem to be done just so they can be done--I'd contend it would actually be quicker to just touch the appropriate button/command on the app on his device. Using voice command to 'Pause' and 'Play' when it takes 5 times longer to do so vs. hitting the pause/play button? Having to initiate the voice command and carry the phone make this a bit overkill. If it saves time and adds convenience, it's useful--if it takes longer and is more involved than the manual process of touching a button, it's a gimmick. When you can use voice commands anywhere without being tethered to a device, I'll find it more useful.

And personally, whenever I try to setup up something in our household using tech to make it easier for my family, it ends up with me spending 3X the amount of time fixing one touch/automated process that they somehow managed to screw up. For example, our Harmony remote is set to turn everything needed to watch movies or satellite TV with a single touch yet my wife and kids NEVER can get a one touch command to work properly--how is that possible? Sometimes, the manual process is the best method...at least in my tech adverse house.

No need to get so defensive, sheesh.

Any price above $20 for such a system would be too much for me, and don't try to tell me that it costs less than that ;)

And I don't use google now or Siri.
